Amphibians and Reptiles in the Pond

Several pairs of American toads converged on the pond in May 2015. They laid about a thousand eggs in these double strands, and a few days later the pond was full of little tadpoles. This big male green frog appeared in late spring of 2014 and stayed around a couple of months. He was famous for his conversational skills, carrying on a chat with anyone who cared to join.

This baby grey tree frog is sunning itself on a raspberry leaf and waiting for any little bite-sized creature that comes along. They can imitate any color between grey and green, including even blue! Here is one from Jim Whitehouse and another of an adult from Christi Vaughn. This baby (about a foot long) northern water snake traveled over quite a bit of ground to establish itself in MY pond!.
